The design idea for this prototype came from some interactive pictures that I saw on itch that would have sound effects when clicked. But few of them will go to the food part. So I had a whim: why don’t I make an interactive image that makes a food sound when clicked?
The picture reference for cooking is from artist Tyu Takimura’s Little Corgi Camping Notes. I tried making several different food sound effects: fry, fry, cut, stir, boil. And match them with the corresponding animation.
Players who have played this game generally said: it is very cute. But some people said: It would be nice if there were more ways to make food, such as stir-frying, flipping the pot and so on. Some people also expressed that there are too few interactive objects. Although it is an interactive picture, there are not many interactive elements in it.
Adding interactive elements to the game that has nothing to do with the progress of the game, I think, adds to the realism and fun of the game. In the ps5 game Astro’s Playroom, a lot of interactive elements unrelated to adventure are designed, such as hitting nearby villains, flipping ps2 discs, and so on. Although they don’t advance the game, it is part of the player’s play.
